Abstract

Osteopathic Values in Fostering a Sustainable Work Environment: Osteopathic values help create a sustainable and supportive environment for pediatric surgeons. These principles encourage collaborative care models that address the surgeon's well-being and patient needs.

Training: Incorporation of Osteopathic Principles in Surgical Education: Osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM) and osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) offer practical applications of these principles. Training programs should include comprehensive modules on whole-person care and preventive strategies, ensuring that future surgeons are equipped to consider the broader developmental, psychological, and familial factors that impact pediatric patients.

Rural vs. Urban Care Availability: Rural children may face challenges in accessing quality pediatric surgical care compared to their urban counterparts, including longer distances to specialized facilities and potential disparities in outcomes.

Current Challenges in the Pediatric Surgical Workforce: The pediatric surgical workforce faces significant challenges, including shortages, access to care, high burnout rates, and communication barriers that impede effective care.
