Abstract

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by motor and non-motor symptoms due to dopaminergic neuronal loss. While traditional treatments—such as dopamine agonists, MAO-B inhibitors, and NMDA antagonists—offer symptomatic relief, they do not alter disease progression.1 However, emerging therapies targeting mitochondrial dysfunction, neuroinflammation, alpha-synuclein aggregation, and synaptic restoration now offer promising avenues for altering disease progression.2 This review provides an overview of current and novel pharmacological treatments and highlights future directions in PD management.
