Background
• Burning Mouth Syndrome (BMS): chronic oral pain disorder
•Symptoms:
• Xerostomia
• Paresthesia of the cheeks, gums, palate, lips, and tongue
• Pathophysiology is not well understood and may be multifactorial
• Nerve damage
• Oxidative stress
• Genetic factors
• Psychogenic factors
• Nutrient deficiencies
• Diagnosis of exclusion
• Lacks a standardized management approach
• Study Purpose: summarize the pharmacological options available for managing
BMS so providers may refer to it when managing patients with BMS
