Abstract
•Implementation of free skin cancer screenings can improve early detection and outcomes1
•Skin cancer includes a variety of abnormal growth of skin cells, some include squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma, and melanoma
•Melanoma is the most aggressive and lethal form2
•While it continues to increase in prevalence3-5, when diagnosed early, melanoma has a good prognosis
•A lower 5-year relative survival rate and a larger percentage of local stage melanoma is reported among African Americans, Asian/Pacific Islanders, and Hispanic persons compared to Caucasians3,5,6
•There is a rising trend in melanoma in Fresno County7
Purpose: conduct a free skin screening to help address potential barriers to dermatological care for community members (CM) in Fresno County.
