Description
Abstract
• Osteoporosis is a progressive skeletal disorder
characterized by decreased bone mineral density
and increased fracture risk1,3
• Osteoporotic fractures contribute to significant
morbidity, mortality, and healthcare costs among
older adults2,3
• Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) is the
gold standard for assessing bone mineral density
and fracture risk3,5
• Clinical guidelines recommend repeat DEXA
screening every 2 years for women ≥65 and men
≥705
• Despite guidelines, many patients do not return
for follow-up scans4,5
• Identifying barriers to follow-up screening may
improve osteoporosis monitoring and fracture
prevention4,5
