Description

Abstract

• Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common treated cardiac
arrhythmia in the United States, affecting over 12 million individuals
and contributing significantly to morbidity, mortality, and healthcare
costs [1].
• AF is associated with serious complications such as ischemic
stroke and heart failure and often occurs in patients with
comorbidities including hypertension, diabetes, and structural heart
disease [2].
• Because AF can be asymptomatic or intermittently symptomatic,
early detection remains challenging yet critical. The increasing
adoption of wearable technologies, particularly smartwatches,
presents a scalable and noninvasive opportunity for early AF
screening in the general population.
