Description
Abstract
Rare diseases are commonly underrepresented in medical care due to misdiagnosis, little research, and limited advocacy. National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD) is a non-profit organization that advocates and provides support for rare disease families. California Health Sciences University College of Osteopathic Medicine (CHSU-COM) initiated a NORD chapter of Students for Rare on their campus to promote awareness and advocacy for rare diseases in the California Central Valley--a large medically underserved area. The mission of Students for Rare at CHSU-COM is to promote awareness and educate students on rare diseases and equip students with a better understanding of a wide range of disorders to become better physicians in the future.
