Abstract

Seeking help for mental health concerns is a social barrier that is just part of the battle for the Hispanic/Latino/a/x community– financial and systemic
disadvantages have created a significant gap in the accessibility and quality of mental health care received by this population. These barriers is courage members of Hispanic/Latino/a/x community from seeking mental health care, which therefore deepens the disparities they
experience. To determine the pertinent barriers that affect the Hispanic/Latino/a/x patient population of United Health Centers (UHC) Bullard, Fresno clinic, as well as their willingness to seek mental health services, a longitudinal study will be conducted at UHC Bullard with the goal of increasing education and utilization of mental health resources for these patients by tailoring an educational pamphlet. The study will be divided into three phases: literature review and data collection, implementation of surveys (pre- and post-) and of educational pamphlet, and lastly ANOVA analysis of survey responses. Currently, in phase 1 of the study, we analyzed the demographic profile of the patient population at UHC-Bullard in order to optimize the materials for phase 2– educational pamphlet and surveys.
