Description

In this case series, we aim to evaluate and discuss the benefits and complications of the Boston Keratoprosthesis in a private practice setting. Based on our study, the results of K-Pro implantation have been promising, especially when factors such as patient selection and preoperative comorbidities are considered. In this study, 15 patients from Insight Vision Center with previously failed corneal transplants were evaluated and followed for an average of 31 months for vision and health outcomes after their K-Pro implant surgeries. The most common post-operative complication included increased intraocular pressure, endophthalmitis, poor compliance and retro lenticular membranes. However, our study showed that the overall use of the Boston Keratoprosthesis was promising and resulted in vision improvement for the majority of patients.
